Description Bernard Pothast was a Belgian artist who studied at the Rijksakademie in Amsterdam between 1904 and 1907. He was a follower of The Hague School, the Dutch equivalent of the French Impressionists. Pothast specialised in painting cottage interiors, where the sitters are bathed in a glowing warm light cast through a window, as seen here. The paint surface is also characteristically loosely handled.
